American Idol

Okay, so I was one of the 12,000 people at Texas Stadium yesterday who tried out for the infamous pop-singing-sensation-searching television talent contest, American Idol. Yes, indeedy, I did it. Before I go into my spiel, you must know that I am so glad I did it, and I had a relatively good time...however...it was the most miserable day of my life. I got to Texas Stadium at 5am Monday morning, only to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with 12,000 other people for 5 hours...OUTSIDE Texas Stadium! No shade, no chairs, nothing. Just standing, frying, and thinking happy thoughts of the 100,000 chairs that awaited us inside! Once inside the stadium, we waited for our section to be called to the field to audition. Each section took an hour to audition, so I waited until 3:00 to sing before my two judges at tent 8 (there were 13 tents on the field...only 10 had judges in them!). We sang in groups of four, one after the other, and no one in my group made it to the next round. In fact, no one in the 6 groups before me made it either! Our judges were tough! I was a little disappointed, but mostly I was relieved! Relieved to sit in my car with air-conditioning, to go home, shower and eat! It was fun, but I never want to do it again! I have a newfound respect for EVERY person who goes through the AI process...they have some serious endurance! So, take away my sunburned shoulders and chest, my aching feet, calves, thighs, back and neck, my almost-gone voice, and my sleep deprived body, and you've got a winner! What an experience!!! The grandkids will hear about this one! :)

Annie, so good to hear from you!!! I am glad you and your husband are doing well. I loved reading about your American Idol experience. You are my idol!!! How crazy and fun. They overlooked a winner for sure.

Love,
Lacy

By the way, was everyone humming in line? Was anyone really obnoxious, thinking they were the next Jordan Sparks? Did anyone do anything really funny? Did you get to meet or see Ryan Seacrest? Just some things a girl's got to know.
