On September 11, I was on my last week of maternity leave, so I decided that we (Nonnie, Hattie, Georgia and I) should go visit the firemen at fire station near our house. It was coincidental that we went on 9/11, but it ended up being very meaningful! They appreciated our visit (and the cookies we brought!) and told us about the moments of silence they had taken around their flagpole to honor the men and women who died on that horrible day in 2001. Hattie had a great time, and Nonnie and I did too! The firemen we so nice, and they came out with big smiles and showed us around the station. We were amazed that Hattie was as tall as the tires on the trucks! They told us the different jobs of the trucks and engines, and they even let us look around the inside of the station to see where they ate all their meals! We told them that we were so thankful for them and that we always try to remember to pray for them whenever we hear the sirens go off. They truly are heroes, and I tell Hattie that all the time. Thank God we live in a country with every-day heroes whom we can trust to take care of us!
