Paris...Day 1

Well, these first few pics are from our first few hours in Paris...it was all we could do to stay awake and not let the jet lag mess us up!  So as soon as we got to the hotel, we unpacked and went for a walk to get our bearings.  The leaves were everywhere and so beautiful!!!

We walked out of our hotel and down these steps into a beautiful historic cemetery.
This sweet kitty let me pet him to the dismay of a random French security guard nearby.
I'm telling you...the leaves and colors of Paris were gorgeous!
The Luxembourg Gardens
Random people in the gardens doing yoga!
The Wall of Love in Monmartre...the phrase "I love you" is written 311 times in 250 languages!
Montmartre was definitely our favorite neighborhood of Paris.  It has SO much art history and charm! Montmartre was the home of Picasso, Modigliani, Van Gogh and many other famous artists so many years ago.
Saint Denis was famously beheaded and supposedly walked down the winding roads of Montmartre with his head in his hands before he died...you can see how much the French people admire him!
Renoir's studio
A small vineyard
Moss on a step somewhere...I took pictures of everything!  But to my credit, everything looks prettier in Paris!
Montmartre is famous for its artist square.  We loved all the things we saw there!
We turned down a road to lead us to the Sacre-Cur (the Sacred Heart) and happened upon this gorgeous view...
The Sacre-Cur
The Sacre-Cur Basilica is located at the summit of the butte of Montmartre, the highest point in the city.  It's a sight to behold!  And what a gorgeous view of the city!
We left Montmartre and headed to the Arc de Triomphe at sunset with our newfound friends from Boston, Katie and Tim.  It was SOOOOO amazing!
Inside, I found a remarkable statue with an interesting expression....
Look at this view and those colors!
Ooooh la la!
Here's our foursome!  Tim and Katie became sweet friends of ours and made the trip so much fun!
We stayed just long enough to watch the sun set at 5:30 and then at 6pm the Eiffel Tower lights turned on and SPARKLED for five minutes!  It lights up every night at 6 and sparkles for 5 minutes on the hour.  So beautiful!  Here is a view from the bottom of the Arc de Triomphe.
Then we walked through the city to get a closer view.
This would be one of probably 100 pictures of the Eiffel Tower!  It's just so beautiful, and from every angle of the city, it looks different!  After this, we went to be early...still trying to catch up on our sleep from the flight over.  The next day would begin early...Versailles!
